WhatsApp helpline number launched to curb corruption

Frustrated with the policemen seeking bribe? Here is good news for you! Delhi police has launched a helpline number 9910641064, where anyone harassed by police officers can register their complain, send recorded audio or video clip using the popular messaging app WhatsApp and action is taken within hours.

Action has been taken against 3 policemen since the launch of the helpline number. Delhi Police has been advertising the helpline number through all popular Hindi, English newspapers and FM channels.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) Sindhu Pillai said the audio and video clip received on the helpline number will be checked by the Forensic Science experts for its genuineness and on establishing the authenticity action will be taken against the corrupt policeman.
This helpline number is launched under the guidance of Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi,  Police officers found guilty will be booked under section 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) and section 13 (criminal misconduct by a public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and other sections under the Indian Penal Code .
Besides sending the audio-video clip on helpline number using app, people can also send email to jtcp-vigilance-dl@nic.in.
The Whatsapp helpline will work with the existing helpline numbers — 1064 and 1800111064 — which currently has four lines, these lines are attended by 20 constables and head constables who work under the guidance of an inspector.
